Erickson Studio Policies
Lesson Times
Piano lessons will be held weekly, each lasting approximately one-half
hour, except under special circumstances where other arrangements
have been made.
Practice Time
Lesson progress and improvement in musical ability depends on
consistent daily practice. Parents and students share the
responsibility to ensure that good study habits are developed and
maintained. Key factors to a positive musical learning enviornment
include a properly tuned piano, adaquate light, and a distraction-free
place to practice. Parental supervision of young students during
practice sessions is encouraged. Students should come to each lesson
prepared to demonstrate significant improvement in each of the pieces
which have been assigned. Written assignments should also be
thoughtfully and thouroughly completed. Because I take Practice time so seriously, and I believe that Parents should play
a huge roll in helping a student succeed at home, I ask that the Parents and Students
set a reasonable monthly practice goal, and faithfully fill out a monthly practice chart, which I will provide.
Music Buck Rewards
All students are eligible and encouraged to participate in my Music Buck Rewards program. Students
earn Music Bucks each month by meeting their practice goals, faithfully completing assignments,
and performing well during lessons. These Music Bucks may be used to purchase any of several
musical gifts, videos, and prizes available in my Music Bucks Catalog.
Recitals
During the course of the year, I may hold anywhere from one to
four formal recitals, depending on parent and student interest. Historically,
most of my students and parents have preferred that piano be educational & fun rather than
a performing experience, and recitals haven't taken place.
Vacation and Holiday Hours
To avoid being charged for lessons missed due to vacation, parents are required
to notify me of their upcoming vacations by the beginning of third week of the
month prior to the vacation. (i.e. if a student is leaving for vacation on
December 1st, I must know by the beginning of the third week of November.)
My studio vacation days and holidays are in conjunction with the St. Vrain
Valley School District schedule, and will be noted on each month's bill.
Withdrawing From Lessons
Students often go through periods of hardship during piano lessons or
practice time, and frustration is a common factor in a child's development
while struggling to learn new concepts and develop musical skills. Parents
are encouraged to call me with any questions or concerns regarding any
problems the student may have. However, if a parent or student chooses to
discontinue lessons for any reason, they are expected to notify me at least
two weeks in advance, so that I will have adaquate time to allow another
student to fill the lesson time.
Termination
Though my students are important to me, I will not hesitate to terminate a
student for constant disruptive behavior, continual lack of preparation,
or often missed lessons. I will make every attempt to fix these situations
with parents before asking the student to leave, however.
Teacher Availability
Parents are encouraged to call me with any questions or concerns regarding
a student's progress, lesson time, practice time, fees, or theory assignment.
I will schedule a meeting with a parent or student at his or her request.
Parents are requested, however, to avoid calling during lesson hours except
to report absences or emergencies. I hope to make each student's piano
experice a very positive and productive one, and will do everything I can
to address concerns as they arise.
