About the Teacher

Music has been an important tradition in my family for several generations. In addition to the piano, I play the flute and electric bass. The piano, however, is my most accomplished instrument. During my fifteen years of piano experience, I've been able to play professionaly for many church choirs, both inside and outside my own religion. I also spent much time as a pianist for vocal groups. Since then, numerous individuals and groups have asked me to accompany them during rehersals, vocal festivals, church solos, and auditions. I've also had three year's experience as the pianist in two different high school jazz bands. As an additional high school activity, I was able to find the time to play flute in the orchestra pit for the musical, Annie and keyboard in the orchestra pit for the musical Bye, Bye Birdie.

In March of 2000, I had the opportunity to attend the North-West-American Choral Directors Association Conference held in Seattle, Washington as a chaperone to one of the attending choirs. In taking part during this event, I was able to learn much about relating to music students and helping them to grow and develop. I also saw and took part in many teaching technics for students in elementary, junior high, and high school age groups.

I've completed several music and child development courses during my studies at the University of Wyoming including Music History, Italian and English Diction, Aral and Written Theory, Music Education, Voice, and Convocation. Some of these classes included the study of several teaching methods and many observation hours within a classroom setting. Through these classes, as well as religion-based functions, I have gained valuable teaching experience by giving presentations on music education to students of various age groups. During my studies at the University, I compiled a short music portfolio and listening log which are available for interested students and parents to view.

Recently, I've begun working as an accompanist for the Heritage Middle School choirs here in Longmont, and have very much enjoyed the time I've spent teaching and learning with the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders there.

I began teaching piano lessons in March of 2000. I know that my musical background has been and will continue to be a great asset to my students, as will my experience in teaching children of all ages in many various religious classes. I've always been comfortable around children (I grew up as the oldest of seven), so I've found that teaching, especially young children and beginning pianists, comes naturally. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and love of music with my students for many years to come.
